Chassol’s fifth album, *FunnyHow?*, is out now! While continuing the legacy of his “Ultrascores” series, this album marks a new turning point in his career. With a more contemporary sound, expanded songwriting, and a clearer focus on social and political themes, *FunnyHow?* is his most polished and accessible work to date! Inspired by American stand-up comedy, this album joyfully blends the diverse musical influences that have shaped Chassol—including soul, jazz, hip-hop, and musical theater. The album features appearances by renowned comedians such as Dave Chappelle, Marina Franklin, Dulce Sloan, and Tiny Thickemz. Additionally, the film includes up-and-coming performers filmed in small comedy clubs, creating a moving ensemble piece that reflects the contemporary American comedy scene. Drawing on footage and archival material shot in New York City and Chicago, Chassol further deepens his signature approach of “harmonizing reality.” By unearthing the "sounds" and "melodies" hidden within the footage and reconstructing and developing them, he creates a grand, political, and highly musical narrative. In concert, this work unfolds as a hybrid stage performance where visuals and live music resonate with one another. As sound and image engage in a continuous dialogue, the result is a breathtaking performance that brings the world of the work to life in three dimensions.
