Pierné's great work, now available for the first time on INA! St. Francis of Assisi" was composed between 1909 and 1911 based on a text by Gabriel Nigon, and premiered on March 24, 1912 at the Chatelet under his own direction. Pierné was the permanent conductor of the Orchestre de la Colonne, based at the Châtelet, from 1910 to 1934, during which time he premiered various pieces by Debussy (Iberia), Ravel (Daphnis et Chloe 1911), Stravinsky (The Firebird), Roussel, Milhaud, and others.
