Description:
The detailed beauty of the nuances of the words of the chorus
Orphée et Eurydice" in French
A definitive masterpiece of instrumental and choral music by Les Arts Florissants and three of today's most active soloists!
The latest recording of Gluck's "Orphée et Eurydice" (French version) by Leszar Florissant is now available in 2024. The French version was born when Gluck, who was active in Vienna, was invited to Paris by du Roullet, the French ambassador to Vienna, and reunited with his pupil Marie-Antoinette, who decided to revise his Vienna smash hit "Orfeo et Euridice" to charm the Parisian audience. The French version of the play was created by the production of a French language version of the play.
The French version was more than just a translation into French. Four new arias were added, as well as various orchestral and ballet pieces. Nearly all of the recitative has been restructured, and many parts have been transposed. In addition, the orchestral instruments have been changed. The cornet, chor anglais, and other instruments of the Viennese version have been replaced mainly by clarinets. Above all, there is the "Dance of the Holy Spirit" (solo flute and strings), one of Gluck's greatest creations in Paris.
Van Mechelen's voice in the tenor aria "Lost Eurydice" is sweet and graceful, and the beauty of the accompaniment is also very moving. The orchestral and choral harmonies are beautiful throughout the entire work, from the sweetest moods to the most powerful scenes, always full of elegance and beauty! This is a performance that once again reveals all the secrets of the beauty of this work. This is a performance of great note!
After graduating from the Brussels Conservatory, Reinaut van Mechelen first came to prominence at Hervé Nicquet's European Baroque Academy. He was then selected as a student of the "Garden of Voices" academy, directed by Christie and Paul Agnew, and made his way to the world stage. Ana Vieira Leite, soprano, is also a graduate of the "Garden of Voices". She graduated from the Geneva Conservatory and won the first prize at the International Flauville Baroque Voice Competition in 2020. She is in great demand, especially for baroque operas. Julie Roset, a native of France, will graduate from the Juilliard School of Music in 2022 with a degree in opera. She has performed in many baroque operas, including the Mass in B minor conducted by Pichon.
