Description:
Hasselhorn, one of the best young baritones, launches a project for the 200th anniversary of Schubert's death in 2028! The first project is "The Beautiful Water Mill Girl". He recently appeared at Waltraud Meyer's farewell concert in Japan, where his voice and stage presence were the talk of the town. Hasselhorn will begin a series on Schubert. This remarkable project will focus on recordings of works written between 1823 and 1828, Schubert's last years. The first work in the series is "The Beautiful Watermill Girl," completed in 1823, 200 years before this year's 2023. Hasselhorn's beautiful utterances, spare phrasing, and deep insight into the work are compelling. The ideal performance of this piece was created with a pianist who is active in song accompaniment. The Beautiful Watermill Girl" was completed in 1823.Hasselhorn comments in the booklet as follows. ~ "Faced with the gap in time that separates us from the era in which these songs were written, we performers must always ask ourselves what these songs are saying to us "now". In fact, I have always found it difficult to accept the story of "The Beautiful Millwright's Daughter" (a miller falls in love with the millwright's daughter, but his love is fruitless) as it is. There is too little concrete information in the story. For example, there is no description of the young woman except that she is blonde and has blue eyes. She herself said very little. It is also difficult to interpret the story as a love triangle in which the young woman fell in love with another man. In Müller-Schubert, as in "The Poet's Love" (1840), in which Heine-Schumann teamed up, the male protagonist is lonely and distant. Beyond the simple tale of lost love, the poetry and music suggest the rejection of the "stranger. He" may have been a person who did not fit the common mold, and was ostracized for his individuality (in this case, "different").And social isolation has driven them to despair. Perhaps this is why this work, written 200 years ago, can still speak to men and women in the 21st century, beyond the confines of the Lieder." Pianist Bushakevich was born in Jerusalem and grew up in South Africa. He graduated from the Conservatory in Leipzig and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. He studied with Filip Mol and Brendel. She is well known for her performances of Schubert's works and was awarded the International Schubert Society Prize in 2011. He is also active as a soloist and is extremely highly regarded for his song accompaniments. As one of Dieskau's students in his later years, he was also selected to accompany Dieskau's master classes. King International
