This is an excellent collection of Berlioz-related works from the perspective of "guitar," including songs that Berlioz arranged for voice and guitar. Berlioz was familiar with the guitar from his youth, and sometimes used it in his compositions. It is said that he composed "Symphonie fantastique" on the guitar. In order to learn the works of his predecessors, he also made arrangements of songs, but these were also composed for voice and guitar. The program here is a collection of such arrangements by Berlioz and works by his contemporaries, and as the title suggests, it is like a concert at Berlioz's salon. The program itself is interesting, but what is even more remarkable is that the guitar played here is an instrument that Berlioz and Paganini owned. In addition, the piano and all the other instruments are from Berlioz's time.
