An enchanting piece. Jaques de Wert (1535-1596) was born in Flanders, the center of Renaissance music, and spent most of his life in Italy, where Baroque music was born. In his madrigale, he left music that successfully bridges the gap between the polyphonic writing perfected by the Renaissance and the new generation of writing created by Monteverdi. He is also known for his unique and dramatic motets, and the pieces recorded here are masterpieces that combine sophisticated and skillful polyphonic writing with an honest beauty that appeals to the heart. The clear, transparent a capella choral music by Stile Antico, a British vocal ensemble known for its "ancient style," is also wonderful and enchanting to listen to. King International
