The Danish String Quartet, recognized as one of the most adventurous string quartets today, is releasing a new album, "Keel Road". The album is "a journey that takes us from Denmark and Norway to the Faroe Islands, Ireland and England through the sounds of traditional Nordic music, following the musical path that has taken us across the North Sea" (Danish String Quartet). This follows their 2017 release of Last Leaf, an album of folk music that was named NPR's "Classical Album of the Year" and one of the best albums of the year by The New York Times and Gramophone magazine. Keel Road" clearly illustrates the Danish String Quartet's assertion that "folk music pieces are not only a part of our repertoire, but also an important subject for our identity as musicians."Along with the folklore pieces, the original works by members René Tonsgaard Sørensen and Frederik Skøyen Scheerin, which are skillfully incorporated into the flow of this recording, are eloquently conveyed in folk music form. Also noteworthy are the Danish String Quartet's captivating arrangements of four works by the legendary harpist Tarrock O'Carolan from County Meads, Ireland. Overall, this "journey" reveals the similarities and differences in the music.
