Description:
The most important disc that marked the beginning of Zamrock! WITCH's 1972 "private press" release of Introduction and the 1973 Musi-O-Tunya release of a number of singles are widely regarded as the first Zamrock recordings to be vinylized. However, given that these works were produced and pressed in Kenya, Tinkle's is a claim to a more important Zambian music title. Released in 1974 as the first LP on the then-nascent Zambian Music Parlor label, Tinkles' debut album, Chalo Kuwama, was the first Zamrock album to be recorded, produced, and commercially released in Zambia. It was a milestone. The whole project was an experiment," said founding member and keyboardist Isaac Makunta, recalling the recording sessions at Malachite Studios in the Copperbelt, which was set up to produce promotional films for the mining industry.Nevertheless, with limited funds, a long-loved, garage-era Zamrock masterpiece was born. The Tinkles produced a few more singles and released their second album, Muchacho, in 1975 before disbanding.
