Soul Nepotism" is the debut album by Erthe St. James, a newcomer to modern Chicago soul! SOULISTIC 360, which resonates with the Chicago underground disco scene, including SADAR BAHAR and RAHAAN! The sound is intimate and fresh, weaving together the rich history of classic soul with contemporary production. The album is a sincere and intelligent depiction of personal themes such as family, lost love, and struggles with the self, while singing an anthem for self-affirmation and freedom. The song "Cocky (Can't Tell Me Nothing)," with its tight beat and sharp humor, and "Saved By The Bell(s)," which quietly sings about facing the past, are rich in variety, yet delve deeply into themselves. Of particular note are the outstanding vocal harmonies.The multi-layered arrangements, as if he had formed a choir with his own voice, add a solemn color to the music, which sometimes takes on a gospel-like spirituality. A trinity of soul, gospel, and contemporary music.
