Mark Ernestus, who left his dub techno heritage with Basic Channel with Moritz von Oswald and founded Hardwax in Berlin, continues to show off his unique style and influence. The uncompromising artist, who has been deepening his dub sound with Rhythm & Sound and Round One~Round Five, has completed his latest album in the series of collaborations with African artists that he started around 2007! KHADIM" is his first as NDAGGA RHYTHM FORCE in 9 years. The revolutionary sound of West Africa x dub presented in the previous album "YERMANDE" has been further sharpened and entered into a new phase. The album is a polyrhythmic minimalism without guitars, using drums, synths, and the traditional Senegalese percussion instrument, the sabar. The reverberant presence of Mbene Diatta Seck's voice is also present. Mark Ernestus also makes full use of his PROPHET-5, which he has been using since the days of Basic Channel. The title track "KHADIM," the crux of NDAGGA RHYTHM FORCE's live show, is the highlight of the album. A grand tribute to Amadou Bamba (aka Kh?dim al-Ras?l), the founder of the Senegalese Islamic mystical cult of the Mourids, the song intertwines steppers and reggae rhythms with folk instruments and modern electronic sounds to soar with history, faith, and the power of music. Other tracks include "NIMZAT," a prayer to Cheikh Sadbou, who is buried in a mausoleum in Nizmat, southern Mauritania; "DIEUW BAKHUL," a critique of betrayal and deception; and "LAMP FALL," a tribute to Cheikh Ibra Fall, founder of the religious group Baye Fall. All of the four songs on the album contain a rich narrative. A masterpiece that opens up new horizons in electronic music, dub techno and African music!
