Description:
Berlin Academy of Ancient Music makes its first appearance at DHM! The spirited ensemble at the forefront of ancient music performance has chosen Vranitsky, a contemporary of Mozart, for its 40th anniversary. The debut recording of the Berlin Academy of Ancient Music (abbreviated as Akamus) for the prestigious DHM is a highly anticipated 2-CD set containing three symphonies by Vranitsky, a well-known contemporary of Mozart. Moravian-born composer Paul (Pavel) Vranitsky (1756-1808) was one of the most influential figures of the Vienna School of Music. He settled in Vienna in search of opportunities, and was highly regarded as an orchestral conductor and composer. During his lifetime, he composed 10 operas, 44 symphonies, at least 56 string quartets, and many more orchestral and chamber works, many of which are still unpublished. He was friends with Mozart, who was born in the same year, and after Mozart's death, his widow Constanze is known to have helped her late husband's works to be published. He was respected by Haydn and Beethoven, who asked Vranitsky to conduct the premieres of Beethoven's "Symphony No. 1" and Haydn's oratorio "The Four Seasons".Although his works are now overshadowed by Haydn and Beethoven, he was considered the most important symphonic composer in Vienna in the late 1790s. His opera "Oberon, King of the Fairies," the first work on this album, is said to have served as the model for Mozart's "The Magic Flute. Symphony in C minor, Op.31 "At Peace with the French Republic" is a symphony with titles "Revolution: March of the British, Austrian, and Prussian Armies," "Fate and Death of Louis XIV (Funeral March)," "March of the British and Allied Armies, Battle," and "Rejoicing at Peace" for each movement. The symphony is a unique work that depicts the process of the French Revolution in sound. Symphony in D major, Op. 36, combines a celebratory, heroic style with the Eastern European tradition. Symphony in D minor "La Tempesta" is an awe-inspiring work of storm, wind, rain, thunder, and lightning, expressed through descriptive orchestration, and awe-inspiring of the forces of nature. The performance by the Berlin Academy of Ancient Music, led by concertmaster Bernhard Falk on violin, is influenced by Haydn, but fits Vranitsky's light and mellow style with skillful orchestral technique, literally reminiscent of Mozart's works. Vranitsky's innovative interpretation and superb performance, with his inexhaustible command of period instruments, make us feel Vranitsky's innovativeness and greatness. Sony Music
