Description:
Release commemorating the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth. Hinrich Alpers' superbly crafted and richly lyrical performance of Liszt's piano arrangement of the symphony. The name Beethoven is sacred in art. Between 1837 and 1863, Liszt arranged nine of Beethoven's symphonies for solo piano, rewriting them into nine unique symphonies that pried open the door to Romanticism and became major works of the 19th century piano repertoire. The nine symphonies are representative of the 19th century piano repertoire. The abundance of detail in the arrangements, the elaborate use of polyphony, and above all, the overwhelming virtuosity, were made possible because Liszt himself was a highly skilled pianist. Liszt's approach was not simply to make an orchestral piece playable on the piano, but to arrange it so that the piano could play the spirit that Beethoven had incorporated into the work.German pianist Hinrich Alpers, born in 1981 in Ulzen, has given recitals in major cities and festivals around the world since winning the top prize at the Beethoven Competition in Bonn in 2009, is a soloist in orchestras, a partner in chamber music and song collaborations He has appeared as a soloist and artistic advisor to the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival; his 2017 release on Sony Classical, Rudi Stefan: Chamber Music and Songs, won the Opus Klassik Award (Chamber Music); in 2018, he performed with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Jonathan Nott in Brahms' Although he is very cautious about CD recordings, he has a wide repertoire and is especially attached to Beethoven's works, having performed 32 piano sonatas and 5 piano concertos in their entirety. Alpers' unique homage to Beethoven has culminated in this recording of the complete symphonies in Liszt's edition. There are only a few pianists, including Cyprian Katsaris, Konstantin Sicherbakov, and Leslie Howard, who have recorded this performance-oriented arrangement in its entirety by themselves, and Alpers' new recording is literally a long-awaited set. In addition, the fourth movement of the "Ninth" is joined by a group of outstanding vocal soloists, including soprano Landschmacher, and the RIAS Chamber Choir. Alpers' interpretations value the individuality of each symphony, and the fun of pianistically reproducing orchestral music works can be fully appreciated in this album, which literally marks the latter end of the Beethoven year.
