Description:

When she starts playing her instrument, I never cease to be amazed--the flexibility, the spark, the energy! The acclaimed virtuoso sheds light on the emotional treasures of Italian Renaissance and Baroque music. Dorothee Oberlinger's new recording, entitled "Discovery of Passion," explores the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque in the 16th and 17th centuries, a time when a new musical language was created that, unlike the music of earlier periods, allowed for a richer expression of emotion and passion. This exhibition sheds new light on the works that emerged during the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque in the 16th to 17th centuries. During this period, especially in many of the centers of Italian culture such as Florence, Ferrara, Venice, Rome, and Naples, the composer's emotions came to be reflected in the music based on new musical theories, and the emotional ups and downs incorporated in the music through rich melody and harmony were directly transmitted to the listener The music is now more direct and expressive. Even small forms of instrumental music such as sonatas and canzonas began to contain great emotional ups and downs, such as despair and anger, through a series of dissonant and breathtakingly fast passages. The album features works by Monteverdi, Merla, Frescobaldi, Rossi, Bassano, Vitali, and other important composers who were at the forefront of Italian music at the time. The album is accompanied by the charismatic and unconventional musician Dmitri Shinkovsky, a three-faceted violinist, conductor, and countertenor singer, which makes the repertoire a fascinating array of arias. Oberlinger and Shinkovsky, along with instrumentalists from Oberlinger's own period instrument ensemble, "Ensemble 1700," make for compelling music. Sony Music
