Actor/director Samantha Morton and UK producer Richard Russell of XL Recordings release their debut album! Samantha Morton is an acclaimed British actor who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Woody Allen's "Love of the Guitar Player" and has since appeared in "Minority Report" starring Tom Cruise. Richard Russell is a music producer and the owner of XL Recordings, a prestigious London label that has produced Dizzee Rascal and Thom Yorke, among others. The musical duo SAM MORTON has released their debut album "Daffodils & Dirt"! Russell's simple, austere soundscapes provide the foundation for Morton's gorgeous, ethereal vocals, which are intimate and delicate, yet powerfully tough and deeply personal on all 12 tracks. In 2020, Morton appeared on BBC Radio 4's "Desert Island Discs," a program in which guests select music to take to a desert island. Russell was so struck by Morton's song selection and commentary that he contacted her, and a few months later the collaboration was born, with such beautiful results.
