Mabon "Teenie" Hodges—Al Green’s guitarist and co-writer of such classics as “Love and Happiness” and “Take Me to the River”— Hodges), who played guitar on all tracks, and Leroy “Flick” Hodges, a member of the Hi-Rhythm band and his brother, played bass on half the album’s tracks. Steve Potts joined on drums. He cemented his reputation after being handpicked by the members of Booker T & the MG’s to succeed the late Al Jackson. Additionally, some of Memphis’s most iconic musicians contributed on keyboards, horns, and strings. Cat Power has created a tribute to the music and style she grew up with.
