Tune-Yards, which started as a solo project of Oakland, California-based Merrill Garbus and has released three albums on <4AD>, has released its first new album in three and a half years since its last release "Nikki Nack"! The new album is a duo formation with longtime production partner Nate Brenne, and features 12 songs on various social issues such as race, politics, feminism, and the environment, and is more dynamic and dance music oriented than the previous albums.The album was mixed by Mikaelin "Blue" Bluespruce, who has worked with Solange and Kendrick Lamar, and mastered by Dave Kutch, who has worked with Jay-Z and Chance The Rapper. I've always wanted to try my hand at sampling my own voice during an MC session. I think the fact that my vocals are being processed by the machine itself feels right for this album.The result is an indie-inspired album with a tricky, one-of-a-kind, mysterious pop sound, as Merrill Garbus describes it.
