Unexpectedly, this was their first solo show in Japan, and they performed a live reproduction of "Madonna" at SHIBUYA CLUB QUATTRO on March 4, 2019, followed by a live reproduction of 2002's "Source Tags & Codes" at Niyoda FEVER the next day in front of their enthusiastic Japanese fans. Production on this album began in 2018, when Conrad Keely returned to his hometown of Austin after spending five years in Cambodia. During that hiatus, Jason Reece released a solo work, Original Machines, in 2016, worked as an illustrator, and also wrote a science fantasy novel, Strange News From Another Planet. For the past five years, the two spent their lives not as members of a band, but as individuals. As a result, they felt reinspired to work with Trail Of Dead.With "X: The Godless Void and Other Stories," the band's dramatic sound is still present, with musical elements of post-rock, progressive rock, and psychedelic with a focus on alternative. The opening track of the album, "The Opening Crescendo," a thrilling, film-music-inspired album opener that expands on the imagery of the intro to the first track "The Doomsday Book" from the previous album, "IX" (2014), opens the curtain that leads us into the world of the 10th album The second track, "All Who Wander," will leave you in a state of intoxication for five minutes, full of Trail Of Dead-esque prog-rock flavors. Conrad Keely says the theme of the album is "the sadness of leaving a place you once loved. Inspired by Steven Pressfield's book "The War Of Art," Keely says he was confronted with his own demons about the creative process.The new Trail Of Dead is now on the move with the members who traveled with them on last year's "Madonna" 20th anniversary tour. 2020 will mark the 25th anniversary of the Trail Of Dead band, but Trail Of Dead will continue to deliver a fresh sound that is not stuck in the rut that veterans tend to fall into.
