Ray Davies reflected on his own journey around the United States in his memoir AMERICANA, published in 2013, and his album of the same name, released in 2017. His new sequel, OUR COUNTRY: AMERICANA ACTII, is now available. In this work, Ray Davies' image of the United States is depicted, and how American influences have shaped and developed him. Looking back on his experiences in the U.S. in this way, Ray Davis began to rethink his way of life. He rediscovered his roots and came to respect and honor them. The new album, "Our Country: Americana Act II," was written, arranged, and produced by Ray Davies, with Guy Massey and John Jackson serving as co-producers. The recording was done at Conch, a recording studio in London, with Bill Stanley (guitar) and The Jayhawks providing backing vocals. Backing musicians on this album were Bill Stanley (guitar) and The Jayhawks, as well as several British musicians. The album also features several songs that revisit Ray Davies' past work, including the opening track, "Our Country," which expands on the theme/melody of the album's title track from AMERICANA.Also inspired by the U.S.A., the band reinterprets songs that Ray Davies once wrote, such as "Oklahoma U.S.A." (on The Kinks' 1971 album "MUSWELLHILBILLIES"), "The Real World" (on his 2007 solo album "Working Man's Cafe"), and "The Getaway" (on his 2006 album "Other People's Lives"). MAN'S CAFE"), and "The Getaway" (from 2006's "OTHER PEOPLES LIVES"). Of the new album, Ray Davies said, "I've been traveling and touring the U.S. incessantly to re-light the Kinks' career and to rediscover the country that inspired me as a young man. Our Country is an album that follows my journey." He said.
