The Choir of Paris-Notre Dame Cathedral has a history dating back to its founding in the 12th century, and its repertoire ranges from the Middle Ages to the works of contemporary composers. The choir has a wide repertoire of works, from medieval to contemporary composers, and sings at masses and other services. The album was originally scheduled to be recorded at Notre Dame Cathedral in the spring of 2019. But just prior to that, on April 15, a devastating fire ravaged the magnificent Gothic church. Conductor Henri Chalais felt compelled to somehow preserve this fire of tradition, so he planned another two years of recordings, and in April 2021, the recording was made at the Sainte-Clotilde Cathedral in Paris, between the Invalides Abbey of the Invalides and the Musée d'Orsay. The works recorded concern Easter in various styles of choral performance and span 600 years of French, Italian, and German musical culture, with organ, etc. They cover works by Yves Castagné, organist of Notre Dame since 1988, and even a work by the organist of Notre Dame since 1985, Yves Castagné, who was the first organist of Notre Dame in Paris.Also, Gandrille's "Stabat Mater" was the piece performed the day before the April 2019 firestorm.
