Having had a major influence on the electro/pop scene since the mid-90s, he’s back with his first studio album in about eight years! Enriched by a diverse array of guest vocalists, *THEPAINTER* is an ambitious work in which his poignant, beautiful, and at times ambient electro sound creates a painterly soundscape—and it’s here at last! William Orbit is known for producing works by artists such as Madonna and Blur, and is himself an artist active primarily in the electro/ambient scene. With total worldwide sales of over 200 million albums for the projects he’s been involved in, and having won multiple Grammy Awards as well as the prestigious Ivor Novello Awards for songwriters and composers in the UK, he has returned to the scene as a musician after a long absence. For William Orbit, *THEPAINTER* marks his 12th album overall and his first new studio album in about eight years, following *ORBITSYMPHONIC* and *SOUNDCARGO5*, which he released on SoundCloud in 2014. While this marks his first release under his own name in quite some time, the album features collaborations with a diverse lineup of vocalists set against the soundscapes created by his signature electro-pop production and songwriting. Guest artists include Katie Melua and Beth Orton—whose albums he has produced—as well as Polly Scattergood, who shares his electro-pop background, and the Mercury Prize-nominated synth-pop innovator, Georgia; the trip-hop sensation from Colorado, Natalie Walker; and Ali Love of Hot Natured & Infinity Inc., who are active primarily in the house music scene. In addition to these, the album features Rid Pimenta from Colombia, Gloria Kaba, a multi-talented producer, songwriter, and vocalist from Ghana; American composer and songwriter Laurie Mayer; and Tanzanian musician Fukwe Zawose, whose vocals are featured as samples.
