In this complete recording, outstanding Handel conductor/researcher Alan Curtis brings together the now radiant mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and other talented performers. This is one of the highly acclaimed performances of the revival of many Handel operas. DiDonato, sang many of the works sung by Castrato at the time, and her expression is overwhelming. The role was composed for the star castrato of the time, Calestini, who sings the title role, Ariodante as the young prince, and two of the most famous arias from Handel's works, "The Next Night" and "Play, O unfaithful woman," are sung. DiDonato sang the role of Ariodante in Genoa in 2007 to rave reviews. The role of the unfortunate Princess Ginevra is played by the Canadian soprano Gauvin, and the Canadian Lemieux, Puertolas from Spain, and Rettipu from Finland also sing on this superb album.This Home of Opera series does not include lyrics or bilingual translation in order to make the music available to a large number of people at a low price.
