Description:
SONIC CREED, the new album from Stephon Harris, innovator of the current Black Jazz Restoration Army, is now complete. The group includes Casey Benjamin (Robert Glasper Experiment), Joshua Crumbley (Kamasi Washington), Pedrito Martinez, Elaina Pinderhughes (Christian Scott), and a whole host of comrades. Stephon Harris, who has played with Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Ry Cooder, and Common, and has released albums of his own projects on a number of prestigious labels. In 2011, he visited Cuba with Christian Scott and David Sanchez to record the album Ninety Miles (Concord). The album was well received by jazz fans for its fusion of traditional, contemporary jazz and Cuban music. The group includes longtime members such as Casey Benjamin (sax, vocoder), a well-known member of the Robert Glasper Experiment, and new members Elena Pinderhughes, a young but world-renowned jazz flutist, and Cuban pianist Axel Tosca, who has performed with Kamasi Washington and Naruyoshi Kikuchi. The new members are fresh and energetic, including Joshua Crumbley, who also came to Japan with the band (U)nity, in which pianist Axel Tosca also participates.The album includes elegantly enveloping soul tunes (3) and (8) with female R&B singer Jean Baylor, who displays a beautiful voice, and Horace Silver's famous song (4). This album is full of comfortable soul music color and jazz elegance.
