A collection of choral works by Mendelssohn's sisters and brother conducted by David Temple! Choral conductor David Temple leads the Crouch End Festival Choir and the London Mozart Players in an album celebrating the works of Felix Mendelssohn and Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel's sisters. The recording also features a strong lineup of soloists, including contralto Jess Dundee, who has made two high-profile BBC Proms appearances this year. One of three cantatas composed by Fanny Mendelssohn in 1831, "Job," as its title suggests, was based on the Book of Job. The cantata remained unpublished until 1992, more than a century and a half after its composition. Felix Mendelssohn's "The First Walpurgis Night," which closes the album, is a secular cantata based on Goethe's poem, first performed in 1831, but later extensively revised in 1843, and the version recorded here is the revised version.
