Tigran Hamasyan

Description:

Tigran Hamasyan is one of the hottest pianists and composers in the contemporary jazz scene, a prodigy from Armenia. His latest work, "THE CALL WITHIN," explores his "inner world" that cannot be described only within the framework of jazz. Tigran Hamasyan is one of the most remarkable pianists and composers in the contemporary jazz scene. Recently, he composed the music for the movie "The Story of a Boatman" directed by Odagiri Joe, and his activities and musicality are now stepping out of the framework of jazz. Now he releases a new album, THE CALL WITHIN, his first studio work in almost two years since his 2018 EP FOR GYUMRI; 2017's AN ANCIENT OBSERVER/ OBSERVER OF THE PREHISTORY and 2018's FOR GYUMRI, his hometown, This time, he is exploring his "inner world".Inspiration comes from poetry, Armenian folklore and legends from before and after the arrival of Christianity, astronomy, geometry, ancient Armenian design, petroglyphs (rock carvings), cinematography, and many other areas and periods of Tigran's interest. --In his work, Tigran blurs the boundaries between historical facts and imaginary worlds. A work of art, a poem, or a melody," he says of the album, "is born not from any definite reason, but from humanity's search for the unseen, for the mystery of the divine. The album is produced by Tigran himself. The 10 songs on the album feature Evan Marien on electric bass and Arthur Natek on drums, who has worked with Tigran in the past. The progressive rock-inspired "Vortէx" features guitarist Tosin Abbasi of the American technical metal band Animals as Leaders, while "Our Film" features improvising vocalist/folk singer/storyteller/pianist Aleni Agbabian and cellist Artiom Manoukian, who is also from Armenia. The Guardian wrote, "An astonishing pianist, an irrepressible entertainer, a future master of high-tech equipment, a promising experimentalist, and a creative force to be reckoned with, Tosin Abbasi is a guitarist in the band Animals as Leaders, and "Our Film" features improvising vocalist/folk singer/storyteller/pianist Areni Agbabian and cellist Artjom Manukian, who is from Armenia, just like Tigran. Tigran Hamasyan, described by The Guardian as "an astonishing pianist, an irrepressible entertainer, a promising experimenter, and a creative world music composer", has listened to his inner voice and created his latest work, THE CALL WITHIN.
