The music of Araujo, one of the great Latin American talents of the 18th century, was released in 2003 on New World Symphony - Baroque Music of Latin America (CDA67380), followed in 2005 by Moon, Sun and All That - Baroque Music of Latin America, Vol. 2 ( (CDA67524), both released in 2005 to rave reviews from BBC Music Magazine, Gramophone, The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Times, and more! Like the previous two albums, the music of Latin America takes center stage in "Flames Burning in the Snow," a work by Juan da Araujo [1646-1712], the greatest Latin American composer of the 18th century. Araujo is believed to have been expelled from Peru, where he had come from Spain as a child, and fled to Panama, then returned to Lima, Peru, and ended his life in La Plata, Bolivia.Although Araujo's works have not been performed as often as his reputation as the greatest Latin American composer of the 18th century would suggest, "Flames Burning in the Snow" is an important record that confirms his extraordinary creativity and musical talent. The voice and tone of Ex Cassidra, unrivaled in the performance and discovery of music of the Baroque period, especially Latin American music, reveals the music of Araujo, which is shrouded in a veil.
