Sergei Kvitko's Schubert Recital in MadridA CD recording of the April 2022 Schubert recital in Madrid, Spain, by Sergei Kvitko, a Russian-born pianist and composer currently based in the United States, is now available. The program is "Improvisation". The program is a coupling of "Impromptu" and "Musik und Das Musik", a character piece popularized in the 19th century mainly in the piano genre. Schubert wrote six pieces with this title around 1823. The third piece is the most famous in the collection and is full of lovely, familiar charm. Then there is the "Improvisation," one of Schubert's most famous piano pieces. The four pieces here are from Op. 90, which are full of songful and beautiful melodies. Sergei Kvitko began studying music at the age of six and moved to the United States to study at Michigan State University, where he studied under Ralph Votapek, the winner of the first Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Since then, he has been based in the U.S. and has given concerts around the world. He is also a member of The Recording Academy and a voting member of the U.S. Grammy Awards. King International
