A project disc by innovative and creative emerging composers! Deutsche Grammophon's new project "12" is a 12-track multi-artist collection by today's most innovative and creative musicians. New tracks will be released monthly throughout the year 2019, representing different contemporary classical genres and selected to fit the mood of the season. Project "12" kicks off with "Moon Square," a piece by Berlin-based pianist, composer, and producer Arnold Kasser. A melancholic yet faintly optimistic sight - this is the perfect selection for a dreary January day.Kasar's unique collaboration with German rock legend Hans Joachim Rederius, whose 2017 DG debut album "Einfluss," and February's project "12" is "Was Am Ende" by Berlin-based pianist and composer Alice Baldwin.The piece, written for piano and strings and dedicated to a dear friend of Baldwin's, evokes something of what is left after a tragic event in life. It reflects the composer's intention as a process of embracing change and finding beauty and light in even the darkest moments. Emotionally rich, moving, and powerful - a fitting piece for a cloudy February day - March's project "12" is "Komorebi" by Berlin-based composer and producer Sailor&I. Komorebi, a piece written for guitar, was born out of the artist's experience of living in an apartment without electricity for over a week. Last spring, I woke up one morning to find that the electricity in my apartment had been cut off. We had been living in the apartment for eight months under an expired lease, and that morning the landlord decided to cut the power to our room. For the next eight days I was in a difficult situation with all aspects of modern life. I was in the middle of remixing and could no longer use my laptop because it needed to be charged every hour.I had no choice but to write and record a series of songs over the next few days on my son's acoustic guitar, which he hadn't touched in several years. One of these songs was "Komorebi. In some way, one could say that the power company, in a way, made a part of this song for us." (1/2) Universal Music/IMS
