A deluxe 4-CD hardbound deluxe edition containing two studio recordings at the Church of Jesus Christ in Berlin and a live recording of a performance at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig will be released at the same time. With his previous work, "The Piano Book," Run-Run brought the joy of piano and music to the world with his standard piano learner's liveries and familiar music from all over the world. Transcending genres, he continues to further his career as one of the world's leading pianists. Recently, he appeared in a special broadcast of Global Citizen's "One World: Together At Home" calling for collective action to stop the crisis of the new coronavirus, and his splendid performances with Lady Gaga, Celine Dion, and Bocelli are still fresh in our memories. Bach's great "Golberg Variations," which he will be challenging this time, is a masterpiece that occupies a unique place in piano art with its incomparable artistry and splendor. It is the pinnacle of baroque keyboard art and is described as the Everest of keyboard players, demanding the utmost in technique and musicality.Lan-Lan has been exploring this masterpiece for more than 20 years, during which time he has been inspired by great predecessors such as Eschenbach and Arnoncourt, and deepened his own interpretation by exchanging ideas with Andreas Steyer, the greatest harpsichordist of our time, in preparation for this recording, which he has decided to make with full confidence. After recovering from a broken arm and getting married, he achieved further human and musical maturity and reached a new stage of his artistry. The performance is deeply moving, with a wonderful balance of knowledge, emotion, and intention. The recording included in the deluxe version is a live performance made 10 days prior to the studio recording at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, where Bach was the music director (Thomas Kantor) and where his tomb is located inside the church. You will enjoy both a contemplative and introspective studio recording and a live recording of a stretched performance with spontaneity. Lan Lan performed this piece by heart at the age of 17 in front of pianist/conductor Christoph Eschenbach.
