Israeli Pianist Anat FortRegular Trio, first new release in four years across CoronaA European piano trio work with a glimpse of Israeli-ness, Anat Fort is a pianist from Israel. Since its formation in 1999, the trio has released mainly on ECM and Sunnyside Records, but after 2018's "Colour," Anat Fort was forced to effectively leave the group for the first time in 20 years by Corona. The pandemic forced each member to leave the group. The pandemic forced the members to retreat to their homes in Israel, Los Angeles, and Germany, respectively, but in the spring of 2022, the three gathered in a Berlin studio after being invited to the BMW Welt Jazz Awards in Munich, Germany. They played freely at first, then suggested songs from their vast repertoire and improvised covers, playing for hours on end, including improvised covers they had never done before.While studying at William Paterson University under artists such as Harold Mayburn and Rufus Reid, Anat oozes the influence of Paul Bray and blends roots, blues and gospel musical elements. This is a wonderful example of a European piano trio that is also akin to the ECM, with glimpses of Israeli-ness.
