Born in 1961 in Virginia, USA, John Hart is a jazz guitarist and lecturer at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. 29 years a fixture in New York City, he is one of the most versatile and versatile guitarists on the jazz scene today. He has released eight CDs as a bandleader on such prestigious labels as Blue Note and has appeared on over 100 CDs as a sideman, including 16 years with organist Jack McDuff.Hart has worked with Jimmy Smith, James Moody, Jon Hendricks, Brian Blade, Chris Potter, Larry Goldings, and vocalists Liz Wright and Hilary Cole. SteepleChase's fifth release, features Rich Perry on tenor, Brian Charette on B-3 Hammond organ, and Steve Johns on drums, making up a perfect quartet. The band is filled with a relatively understated jazz sound while maintaining a very high level of individual playing skill. From mainstream to free improvisation, blues to funk, John's ease in creating all manner of expression is evident on this album and well worth a listen.
