Description:

Another previously unreleased recording from the Grateful Dead's vast live archive is now available for the first time officially! The Grateful Dead's legendary live performance in the early 1980s at the historic Madison Square Garden in New York City, USA, is now available on 3 CD set with remastered soundtracks! The historic venue, Madison Square Garden in New York City, U.S.A., has produced many legends. For the Grateful Dead, the band that created so many legends, it was their "home" away from home, where they played a record-breaking 52 shows at the time. The venue's excellent acoustics and the unbridled enthusiasm created by the fans always brought out the best in the Dead. In fact, when the Grateful Dead were inducted into the Madison Square Garden Walk of Fame in 2015, Bob Weir commented at the ceremony: "This place is a discerning place. This was a terrific and exciting place to be, with a discerning but voracious audience."We had to face that place every time." A live archival work that captures the history of the Grateful Dead and Madison Square Garden is now available. The 3-CD set "MADISON SQUARE GARDEN, NEW YORK, NY 3/9/81," which includes the entire March 9, 1981 performance, features the Grateful Dead members on stage, the Deadheads gathered at Madison Square Garden, and the overwhelming energy created by the atmosphere of New York City. The overwhelming energy generated by the members of the Grateful Dead on stage, the Deadheads gathered at Madison Square Garden, and the atmosphere of the city of New York is packed into this album. The first time the Grateful Dead played Madison Square Garden was in 1979, in the middle of their career. However, once they did, the venue became a familiar venue for the Dead, as they performed there 10 times over the next 15 years. As with previous releases in the Live Archives series, the masters have been restored, speed-corrected using the Planget Process, and mastered by Jeffrey Norman. It was also produced by Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux. MADISON SQUARE GARDEN, NEW YORK, NY 3/9/81" captures the Grateful Dead when they released 1980's "Go to Heaven" and were playing over 200 shows a year. The band members at this time were Jerry Garcia (lead guitar, vocals), Bob Ware (rhythm guitar, vocals), Phil Resch (bass, vocals), Bill Kruzman (drums), Mickey Hart (drums), and Brent Midland (keyboards, vocals). This is the official live recording series of the Grateful Dead's relatively overlooked shows from the early 1980s, which have been a part of the Grateful Dead's history for half a century.
