Formed in 1987 at the University of Bristol in the UK, the band centered around guitarist David Gablin and vocalist Harriet Wheeler. In 1990, their debut album *READING, WRITING AND ARITHMETIC* immediately reached No. 4 on the UK charts, and they gained popularity for their beautiful sound—a fusion of post-punk and neo-acoustic that differed from Britpop—and their pop sensibility. Released in 1997, this album retains The Sundays’ signature sound—acoustic tones and crystal-clear vocals—while incorporating keyboards and a horn section to create a richer, more full-bodied sound. It features the single “Summertime,” which reached No. 15 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 10 on the US Modern Rock Chart.
