Bach’s (1685–1750) works, numerous composers have attempted various arrangements of them. The first composer to attempt an arrangement for guitar was Tarrega, who was also a renowned guitarist. Tárrega succeeded brilliantly in translating Bach’s counterpoint and tonal diversity to the guitar, providing valuable inspiration to the next generation of composers. Among them, it was Manukian who arranged Partita No. 2. He succeeded in perfectly transposing this piece, originally written for a keyboard instrument, to the guitar. The two works by Hopstock also fit the guitar perfectly, as if they had been written for it from the start. Furthermore, it was the performer himself, Perroa, who adapted BWV 972—an arrangement of Vivaldi’s violin concerto into a Bach solo keyboard piece—for the guitar. This, too, is a flawless rendition. The performer, Perrota, is a virtuoso born in Paris in 1973. Since 2003, he has been performing with Jérémie Jouvet as the “Paris Guitar Duo,” earning acclaim around the world.
