Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" is now available in a new interpretation that is closer to E.T.A. Hoffman's original work. Although "The Nutcracker" has gained worldwide popularity as a ballet rich in fantasy with brilliant music and choreography, according to John Mauceri, the conductor of this recording, Tchaikovsky himself was not completely satisfied with the work. According to John Mauceri, the conductor of this recording, Tchaikovsky himself was not completely satisfied with "The Nutcracker." The reason, he says, was that it removed the perspective on social disparity and inequality that E.T.A. Hoffmann's original story "The Nutcracker and the King of the Mice" had. Therefore, Mauceri spent more than four years reconstructing the story. While adding such social perspectives, he depicted the story of the main character, Marie, as she grows up and marries the king (the former Nutcracker) over a period of 600 years. The music is adapted from various orchestral works by Tchaikovsky and readings in English are added. Born in New York in 1945, Mauceri is a conductor. He has been the Music Director of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra for 16 years since its founding, and has also served as Music Director of opera houses in Turin and Washington, D.C., as well as guest conductor at La Scala in Milan and the Metropolitan Opera House.In addition to numerous premieres of numerous works, he is also known for his long association with Leonard Bernstein and his recordings for Decca's "Decadent Music" series.
