Description:

Vandini (1691-1778), a composer of the Italian Baroque period, was also an excellent cellist. He was a close friend of Tartini and was known to have played with the same orchestra in Padua. His advanced playing apparently impressed the English music critic Charles Burney, who was visiting the area at the time, and his praise is noted in the "Musical Observations. Barney also mentioned the way he held his bow, noting that he played with an underhand grip (held from below, like a double bass). The album features recordings of all the works that Vandini is said to have left behind, based on the latest research. The works are technical and flamboyant, and can be fully enjoyed with the sound of the original instruments. The cello player Francesco Galligioni, like Vandini, holds the bow with an underhand grip and strives to reproduce the playing style of the time. Naxos Japan
