This album is a collection of vocal works by Mielczewski, whose first collection (ACD-227) was well received. Mierczewski's birth year and early childhood circumstances are not known, but records indicate that he became a musician at the Warsaw Royal Chapel in 1638, and in 1645 he became head of music at the court of Karol Ferdinand Vasza, brother of King Władysław IV. He used the most advanced style of the time, including the inclusion of Polish folk songs in his works, and on this album we hear several of his religious vocal pieces, including an incomplete but extant fragment of the \"Missa Triumphalis. In this album, too, Kosenjak pays careful attention to the choral arrangements and pursues the sound that Mielczewski would have sought.
