The Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the oldest orchestras in Ukraine with over 120 years of history, proudly carries out this mission. Its conductors include such masters as Richard Strauss, Mahler, Ravel, and Bartók. Under the current conductor and musicologist Volodymyr Sivohyp, the orchestra has premiered many important works by Miroslav Skolyk, Arvo Pärt, Bodana Florjak, and others.\n\n\n\nPianist Violina Petrichenko, a native of Zaporizha, Ukraine, studied at the Ukrainian National Academy of Tchaikovsky Music, then in Germany at the Franz Liszt School of Music in Weimar, at the Cologne University of Music with Jakob Leuschner, at the Folkwang School of Music in Essen She studied with Evgeny Sinaisky. She is dedicated to promoting the music and culture of her native Ukraine, and her efforts have made numerous works from her homeland more widely known internationally.\n\n\n\nOn this album, Petrichenko presents the world premiere recordings of piano concertos by two composers from his native Ukraine, Vasil Balvinsky and Viktor Kosenko.
