Johann Joseph Fuchs (1660-1741), the founder of modern counterpoint and the author of the famous "Gradus ad Parnassum," was the chief music master at the court of Vienna. He excelled not only in rigorous calligraphy but also in rich emotional expression, and in his operas and religious oratorios he showed a freedom of style that was not restricted by style. This oratorio, based on the famous and dramatic scene of Peter's denial of Jesus, is also a profound piece of music with a highly sophisticated combination of passionate human drama and logical sound. You can hear a live recording of the work when it is revived for the first time in 300 years at the Resonanzen Festival in January 2020 by the greats of the ancient music world, Letzborg and Ars Antiqua Austria.
