Makaya McRaven, one of the leading beat scientists of contemporary jazz, who has continued to raise his profile with his work for International Anthem and his reworkings of Gil Scott-Heron and Blue Note albums, has released his latest album, "In These Times"! This is a collection of poly-tempo = different tempos going on simultaneously, inspired by McRaven's personal experiences coming from a multinational working-class musician community and, more broadly, by cultural struggles. While he has continued to release energetically since "In The Moment" (2015), which brought him to prominence, this is a recorded work that has been in constant production under the surface for a period of seven years. Featuring such allies as Jeff Parker, Junius Paul, Brandy Younger, Joel Ross, and Marquis Hill, the material was recorded in five studios and four live performance spaces, with McRaven doing extensive post-production work at home.Interwoven with orchestral and large ensemble arrangements and his signature organic beat music, the album is another step forward and milestone for McRaven as a producer.
