Caractacus\" is the last choral work by Elgar in the 1890s, a period in which his fame grew with large-scale choral works such as \"The Black Knight\" (1893), \"The Light of Life\" (1896), \"King Olaf\" (1896), and \"St. George's Banner\" (1897).
