Rare recordings in a building associated with Wagner made possible by the Corona disasterThe opening of this year's Bayreuth Festival 2020 was quite different from previous years. Although the festival did not take place and all opera performances were canceled due to the new Corona epidemic, a special opening concert was held in the famous "Van Fleet House" where Wagner lived during his time in Bayreuth. Festival music director Christian Thielemann and members of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra performed Wagner's works, "Siegfried Pastorale" and the "Wesendonck Lieder" with Finnish soprano Kamila Nylund as soloist. Deutsche Grammophon is very pleased to present this special event on CD, which was realized in collaboration with the Bayreuth Festival and the Bayerischer Rundfunk, both of which are musically very distinguished.Deutsche Grammophon has released five Wagner operas recorded live at the festival ("Tristan und Isolde" in 2015, "Parsifal" in 2016, "Die Meistersinger von Nuremberg" in 2017, the Grammy-nominated Lohengrin" in 2018 and "Tannhäuser" in 2019), this album is a rare recording made at the Van Fleet Pavilion, which is rarely recorded.
