Placido Domingo, one of the world's leading opera singers and one of the three most popular tenors, makes his debut at the National Opera of Mexico in 1959, and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his debut in 2009, RCA and SONY CLASSICAL have released three sets of his best opera arias from 1968 to 1989. The first disc features the best arias from Verdi and Puccini's famous operas, and the second disc features the best arias from other operas. The album was awarded the "Bambi Prize," Germany's oldest mediaeval prize for 2008 (concurrent winners include Britney Spears, Leona Lewis, Keanu Reeves, Meg Ryan, etc.).
