＝Chicago Symphony Orchestra Live = Superb Recording! Mahler's "Giants" by Principal Conductor Haitink! The third installment of the Mahler series by Principal Conductor Haitink and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO), the latest CSO Resound album is a live performance of Shostakovich No. 4 (CSOR901814), which took place in May 2008, just over a week before the previous release, Shostakovich No. 1 "Giants", six months after the performance of No. 6 "Tragic". Giant" live, just a week before the previous Shostakovich No. 4 (CSOR901814). It is well known that the maestro Haitink is a Mahler specialist, and the "Titan" was recorded with the Concertgebouw Orchestra (RCO) in 1962, at the beginning of the recording of the complete symphonies, and was also recorded with the RCO in 1972 as a session recording, and again in 1977 as a live recording with the RCO (CSOR901814). In addition, there was a session recording with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 1987, and a live video recording with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 1994. The CSO, which traces its origins back to the orchestra's first performance at a subscription concert in November 1914 under the direction of Frederick Stock, the second music director, a quarter of a century after the composer's own premiere, has also recorded the work under the direction of Giulini (1971) and Abbado (1981), as well as that of Giulini's principal guest conductor, Scholte (October 1983), the eighth music director, and the composer. The CSO also boasts an extensive recording history with Principal Guest Conductor Giulini (1971), as well as with Abbado (1981), Tennstedt (live in 1990), and Boulez (1998).The ideal relationship between a mature maestro and the world's most powerful orchestra is one of deep trust. Now in his third season as principal conductor, Haitink recently enjoyed an overwhelming success with Mahler's "Resurrection" in November, and is expected to visit Japan with Mahler's "Tragic" in February 2009.
