Oscar and Grammy nominated composer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and one of the greatest singer/songwriters of our time, Sufian Stevens, and his stepfather, longtime collaborator and co-founder of Asthmatic Kitty Lowell Brams, Sufian's stepfather, longtime collaborator, and co-founder of Asthmatic Kitty, has released a collaborative album, "Aporia. The album represents a pivotal moment in the relationship between Sufian and Brams. Their relationship began in the early 1980s when Brams married Sufian's late mother, Carrie, and remained strong throughout Sufian's adolescence and adulthood. In 2008, the two collaborated on Brams' album Music For Insomnia. Sufian's 2015 album, Carrie & Lowell, was a memorial to her late mother through the lens of her marriage to Brams.This album, "Aporia," was recorded over the past several years during each of Brams' visits to New York City, where Sufian lives. Unlike "Music For Insomnia," which took a more non-cooperative, niche approach, "Aporia" is a tasteful, New Age-influenced work. After many hours of recording, the duo extracted the best moments from the recordings and completed them as songs. During this process, Brams announced his retirement from Asthmatic Kitty. This was the driving force behind the completion of the album. The album includes songs by Thomas Bartlett (Doveman), D.M. Stith, Nick Berry (Dots Will Echo), John Ringhofer (Half-handed Cloud), James McAlister, Steve Moore (Sunn O )))), Yuki Matthews (The Shins), Cat Martino, and others. The album features 21 ambient electronic tracks documenting key moments in their relationship.
