Two of Kulenzis' most trusted young musicians will perform the Brahms sonatas! He will perform the complete Brahms Violin Sonatas with Maksim Emelianichev. Emelianichev has attracted attention for his virtuosity and presence on the bass continuo in the Musica Eterna, and Pritchin was the concertmaster during his tour of Japan. Emelianichev's conducting mentor is Rozhestvensky, but he is strongly influenced by Kurrenzis and Gergiev, and his Brahms Symphony No. 1, which he conducted with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in 2018, received rave reviews. He is an avowed Brahms lover, and here he appears as a pianist. He is not playing a fortepiano, but a New York Steinway made in 1875, the same year as the sonata was composed, and he accompanies with the utmost eloquence.
