A new masterpiece from Omage Lucky Hole (now OnlyLoveHurts), every track of which can be confidently called a classic! ■ Album Overview: I Hate Music - 2 Released in 1999. A devoutly irreverent work that transforms everyday life—so raw it makes you want to look away—into funk. The X-RATED noir band’s second album, Music Hater, is set for an analog LP release on their first-ever “clear pink vinyl.” The cover features an illustration by Showa-era artist Kazuo Uemura. When the band visited Mrs. Uemura—who manages the copyright to his posthumous works—with a gift basket to request permission to use the illustration, she said, “After listening to that album, I thought they’d be scary people, but I was surprised by how polite you were,” and readily granted permission. She also remarked, “I have absolutely no interest in the gekiga that Uemura drew to make a living; I’ve never even looked at them properly. To me, Uemura is, above all, a painter,” and they were deeply moved by her words. There is also an anecdote that the wife, who did not approve of the gekiga, lent them the illustration she described as “the only one he ever liked” for use on the album cover. The album begins with the authentic underground Afro-beat\/ funk style, “I Want Some Warmth, Some Human Touch”; “A Hostess Living Alone Subscribes to a Newspaper for the First Time,” featuring aCKy’s irresistible rap; the staple song played toward the end of live shows, “Tokyo (Ja) Nightclub (Ha)”; a cover of Kenichi Hagiwara’s “54 Days, Waiting in Vain” , and the masterpiece “360° Normal”—which fans have been clamoring to hear live—are just some of the highlights.
