Bach & Ysaye TESTAMENT, the Bach and Ysaye label, presents an analog release of Bach and Ysaye by violin prodigy Michael Levin (1936-1972), who at the height of his genius played the violin with Mitropoulos in 1950. Levin performed with Mitropoulos in 1950 with great success and Mitropoulos recognized his talent, and from 1954, Levin began to tour Europe as well. The recording features Bach's Sonata No. 3 in C major and Ysaÿe's Sonatas Nos. 3 and 4, both unaccompanied. Ysaye's No. 3 is rhapsodic and technical, and No. 4 has impressive pizzicato movements and flourishes, but Levin's flawless technique and musicality are on full display in this outstanding performance. The Bach, too, from its inspired opening to the finale, was nothing short of superb. This is an analogue of the quintessential performance of the prodigy Levin. King International
