Born into a wealthy family with a pharmacist father, she received her musical education at an early age. 28 years old, she lost her father and moved to Szczecin (now part of Poland) to make a living, where she studied with the renowned composer Löwe. From then on, she devoted herself to composition and produced many works, including eight symphonies and a number of operas. This album includes three popular concert overtures first performed in 1850, the overture \"Faust\" composed in 1880, and a piano concerto, believed to be her only concerto. The overture \"Faust,\" a late work in sonata form, was premiered in Berlin with great success and earned her a reputation as an outstanding female composer on a par with Fanny Mendelssohn and Clara Schumann. The \"Piano Concerto in B flat major\" is a neat work that adheres to the classical style. Here, Tobias Koch played an instrument created in 1859, during Meyer's lifetime. The sound of those days was reproduced.
