This disc is a collection of three concerto works by Ernst von Dohnányi (Hungarian name Ernee Dohnányi), the grandfather of the famous conductor Christoph von Dohnányi, who worked as a composer and conductor. D'Honani composed two piano concertos, and this "Variations on a Theme of a Nursery Rhyme," a work from 1914, features the melody "Twinkle, Twinkle, Twinkle Stars" that everyone knows after a solemn, grave introduction. The piano plays an active role in the piece, and the orchestra engages in a dialogue with the piano, ending with an overwhelming fugue. The Concerto for Harp and Chamber Orchestra is a small piece written in 1952. The harp sounds that seem to drift through the entire piece create a mysterious atmosphere. Konzertstück", known as a favorite of the virtuoso Starker, is another beautiful piece with an extended cello melody and impressive chromatic harmonies in which the cello interacts with the orchestra.
