Since its release at the end of 2002, this is the second volume of the series of Mravinsky's live stereo performances in Japan, which has been receiving a great deal of acclaim for its rare value as a documentary source and, above all, for the extraordinary quality of the performances. As in the previous release, the two titles from the 1977 performance are a superb repertoire that needs no further explanation. The "Unfinished" is filled with extraordinary dramatics, and is beautiful to the point of being frightening. Weber's "Weber" is the ultimate in functional beauty that modern orchestral performance has reached. Wagner at a high level that transcends the so-called "authentic" style, all of which strongly impresses the unique nature of the iron ensemble under the perfectionist Mravinsky. The greatest feature of this series is the overwhelming richness of the sense of presence. The atmosphere of the concert hall, which is said to be difficult to capture in recordings, is brought to life with unprecedented reality. The sound quality is even better than the first recording, and it would be a shame to miss out on this experience.The year 2003 marks the 100th anniversary of Mravinsky's birth, and we can't take our eyes off this series.
